Team

231 employees and 58 trainees are currently employed at the hotel, of which 39 percent have worked at the Neptun for more than 10 years, 22 percent for more than 20 years, 13 percent for more than 30 years and 10 employees have worked at the Neptun for more than 40 years. The longest-serving employee has been working at the hotel since 1 September 1973. Among the employees are 39 university, technical college graduates and master craftsmen.

All others are skilled or semi-skilled workers. The team is international and unites 25 nations, including from Europe, but also from Thailand, Argentina and South Africa.

Apprenticeship

Since 1971 more than 2,600 young people have been trained as chefs, hotel and restaurant specialists, confectioners, sports and fitness specialists, catering specialists, event management specialists and business administration graduates or bachelors in tourism management.

Worth knowing

There are 338 comfortable rooms with 576 beds on 14 of the 19 floors. When it opened in 1971 the hotel had 715 beds and with the extra beds for children it had 800. Later from 1990 the number of beds was reduced as the opening of the borders also changed the demands on the hotel: many holidaymakers were - for the time being - drawn to more distant countries. Instead more and more business travellers came to Rostock.

Since 4 June 1971 2,126,645 guests have arrived. By December 2020 they had spent a total of 8,896,277 overnight stays - and consumed just as many breakfast portions. The average length of stay of guests in the hotel and in Warnemünde over all years was 3.12 days, with the length of stay averaging 5.92 days until 1990 and 3.02 days from 1991 onwards.

Until 1989 members of the GDR trade union federation FDGB made up the largest group of guests. Between 1971 and 1989 the hotel catered for 20,900 FDGB holidaymakers every year. A two-week stay including full board cost 310 marks per person, 30 marks for children.

There are over 1,400 seats in the restaurants and bars. For conference and meeting participants, there are 820 seats in various conference rooms.

The hotel needs around 20 tonnes of fruit per year just for its guests' breakfasts, five tonnes of which are pineapple. Likewise four tonnes of smoked salmon, 340,000 bread rolls and 50,000 croissants are consumed for breakfast each year and 50,000 litres of coffee are drunk. The entire hotel uses around 6 tonnes of coffee beans or coffee powder per year.

In its broiler restaurant the hotel needs between 55 and 70 tonnes of chicken per year, over 35 tonnes of French fries and more than 15 tonnes of homemade sauces. Café Panorama serves an annual average of around 50,000 pieces of homemade cake, pastries and cakes.
